Craps is a game played by rolling two dice. The game is split into two distinct phases, known as the coming out phase and the point phase.
The coming out phase
In this phase,
the player’s
aim is to roll
either a 7 or an 11 while betting
on the pass line. If a Craps is
rolled, meaning a 2, 3 or 12, this
bet loses. A point is established
when a player rolls a 4, 5, 6,
8, 9 or 10.
The point
phase
In this phase,
the same number as the point
must be rolled before a 7 is
rolled.
The betting strategy.
This will take
a while to learn but once a new
player grasps the logic behind
the strategy, the game is easy
to play. An alternative is to bet
on the ‘don’t pass’ bet. This means
that on the initial or ‘come out’
roll, the player will win on a
craps and lose on 7 or 11 roll.
If a point is established, this
would win if a 7 is rolled before
the corresponding number.
In both phases
of the game, different side bets
can be made which will increase
the player’s chances of winning.
The Terminology used in Craps may differ from one casino to another. For the most part, the player who is rolling the dice is called the “shooter”. A 7 or 11 roll is called a ‘natural’.
One
of the good strategies commonly
used is to make ‘pass line’
bets or ‘don’t pass’ bets
by placing the true odds bet
once the point has been established.
You do this by clicking to
the right of the point chip,
and your second true odds
bet will be placed. Another
good bet is to place the 6
or 8 to win bet.
Proposition Bets - These
bets can be made at any time. Except for the Hardways,
they are all one-roll bets.
Any craps: You win if a 2, 3 or 12 is thrown. Pays 8:1
Any seven: You win if a 7 is rolled. Pays 5:1
Eleven: You win if an 11 is thrown. Pays 15:1
Ace deuce: You win if a 3 is rolled. Pays 15:1
Aces/Boxcars: You win if a 2 or 12 is thrown. Pays 30:1
Horn Bet – These are bets made on 2, 3, 11 and 12 and placed all at once. A player
wins if one of these numbers is rolled. The pay-off is determined by the number
rolled. The other three bets are then lost.
Hardways - The bet on a Hardway
number wins if it is thrown
the ‘hard’ way before the
‘easy’ way or a 7 is rolled
i.e. as a double. A Hardways
bet on 8 will win on 4-4,
and lose on 7, 6-2 or 5-3.
